BANGKOK — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will embark on an official visit to Thailand on Monday, May 19, as part of a diplomatic mission aimed at strengthening strategic cooperation between the two Southeast Asian nations.
According to a statement from Yusuf Permana, deputy for protocol, press, and media at the Indonesian Presidential Secretariat, the visit marks a critical step in deepening bilateral ties across multiple sectors. “President Prabowo’s visit carries significant meaning. It reflects Indonesia’s commitment to enhancing collaboration with Thailand in key areas such as the economy, politics, defense, and education,” Yusuf said in a press release issued Sunday, May 18.
The President’s official itinerary begins at 9:30 a.m. local time in Bangkok with a royal audience at the Amphorn Royal Palace, where he will meet King Maha Vajiralongkorn. The meeting underscores the longstanding diplomatic relationship and shared respect between the two nations.
Following the royal audience, President Prabowo will attend a formal welcome ceremony at the Government House, hosted by Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra. The event will include the playing of national anthems, an inspection of a military honor guard, and the introduction of both countries’ official delegations.
A bilateral meeting between Prabowo and Prime Minister Paetongtarn will follow, during which the leaders are expected to discuss expanded cooperation in economic development, political engagement, regional security, and education.
President Prabowo will be accompanied by a senior delegation, including the coordinating minister for economic affairs, the foreign affairs minister, the cabinet secretary, and Indonesia’s ambassador to Thailand.
A key highlight of the visit will be the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU), formalizing both countries’ shared commitment to deepen their cooperation.
The visit will conclude with a state luncheon at the Government House, attended by top Thai officials—a symbolic gesture of goodwill and continued partnership.
“This visit is expected to further cement the bond between Indonesia and Thailand, while opening doors for new and meaningful collaborations moving forward,” Yusuf said.
According to VOI News, the high-level engagement is seen as a milestone in ASEAN diplomacy and a testament to Indonesia’s regional leadership ambitions.
