U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA) is actively campaigning for re-election ahead of the November midterms while publicly addressing speculation about a potential 2028 presidential campaign. During his race against Republican challenger Rep. Mike Collins, Ossoff has stated on multiple occasions, including in recent debates and media interviews, that he has “zero interest” in seeking the presidency.

The statement has been delivered to several news organizations, including CNN and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, as Ossoff focuses on the Georgia senate contest. His campaign has centered on his legislative record and has involved direct criticism of his opponent’s policy positions.

During a televised debate in October, Ossoff addressed Collins’ voting record and affiliations. In one exchange, Ossoff stated, “If John Lewis were marching today from Selma to Montgomery, Mike Collins would be grabbing a billy club.” He also questioned Collins’ votes related to tariffs and foreign policy.

Ossoff’s political career began with a special election for Georgia’s 6th congressional district in 2017. He lost that race to Republican Karen Handel, securing 48% of the vote to Handel’s 52%. The high-profile contest brought him national recognition and a substantial fundraising base.

In 2020, Ossoff ran for the U.S. Senate against incumbent Republican David Perdue. In a runoff election held in January 2021, Ossoff won the seat with 50.6% of the vote, making him the first Democratic senator from Georgia since 2005.

Before entering electoral politics, Ossoff worked as a congressional aide for Rep. Hank Johnson and interned for the late Rep. John Lewis. He holds a master’s degree from the London School of Economics and served as the CEO of Insight TWI, a London-based company that produces documentary films.

Since taking office, Senator Ossoff’s legislative work has included proposals to ban stock trading by members of Congress and their immediate families, efforts to amend the constitution to regulate corporate campaign spending, and investigations into conditions within the federal prison system.

Campaign finance records for the current election cycle indicate Ossoff’s campaign has raised over $98 million, with approximately $43 million in cash on hand as of the last reporting period. The election is scheduled for November 5, 2026.
