WorldIsraeli Forces Operate in Northern West Bank; 32,000 Palestinians Displaced

Israeli security forces began a military operation in the northern West Bank on Monday, which officials described as a counterterrorism initiative. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) subsequently reported that the operation has led to the displacement of more than 32,000 Palestinians from refugee camps in the region.

In a joint statement, the Israeli military, police, and internal security service (Shin Bet) announced the launch of a “broad counterterrorism operation.” The statement said the action was based on intelligence concerning “attempts to establish terrorist strongholds” in the area. Official Israeli sources did not immediately provide further details regarding the specific targets or the duration of the operation.

Following the commencement of the Israeli military action, UNRWA released figures on its humanitarian impact. The U.N. agency stated that over 32,000 Palestinians have been displaced by the ongoing events in the northern occupied West Bank. The initial report from UNRWA did not specify which refugee camps were most affected or elaborate on the conditions of those displaced.

The northern West Bank, which includes areas such as Jenin and Nablus, has been the site of repeated Israeli military operations over the past year.

Reports from the region are still developing. There has been no official confirmation of casualty figures from either Palestinian or Israeli authorities at this time. Statements from the Palestinian Authority and other international bodies are pending as events unfold.
