At least five people were killed after Israeli airstrikes struck a residential building in Gaza City early Saturday, June 20, 2026, according to medical sources cited by the Palestinian Wafa news agency. The strikes on al-Thalatini Street resulted in the deaths of a family, including a father, mother, and their two daughters, officials said.
Medical sources reported that the father and his two daughters were killed in the initial strike. The mother was transported to a hospital with injuries and died later on Saturday. Several other people were also injured in the incident, according to the same report.
An Al Jazeera correspondent on the ground stated that residents had not received a prior warning before the strikes occurred. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) did not immediately issue a statement regarding the operation.
In separate incidents, Wafa reported that five people were injured on Friday evening after an Israeli airstrike hit a tent sheltering displaced families in the al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis, a designated humanitarian zone. The agency also reported gunfire from Israeli naval vessels off the coast of southern Gaza on Saturday morning.
The events occurred following a ceasefire brokered by the United States in October. Since that agreement, health authorities in Gaza report that at least 1,007 people have been killed and 3,165 others have been wounded in the territory.
According to the same authorities, at least 73,018 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip since the conflict began in October 2023. These figures do not differentiate between combatants and civilians and have not been independently verified by The World Politics.
Humanitarian organizations have continued to report on the challenging conditions within Gaza, citing Israeli restrictions on the entry of food, medical supplies, and shelter materials for the region’s 2.2 million residents.
