Dynamos secured a 4-1 victory over Tel One FC at Rufaro Stadium in Harare, while Highlanders defeated Bikita Minerals 2-0 at Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo.
The matches marked the opening round of Zimbabwe’s primary knockout football tournament, organized by the Premier Soccer League (PSL).
In Harare, Dynamos took the lead in the first half and extended it after the break to establish control of the match. Goals for the Harare-based club were scored by Emmanuel Paga, Tanaka Shandirwa, and a brace from striker Elton Chikona. Tel One FC scored a single goal in the second half.
Following the match, Dynamos coach Genesis Mangombe addressed the team’s performance. “The objective was to advance to the next round, and the players executed the game plan,” Mangombe stated in post-match comments. “We are pleased with the result and now look forward to the next challenge.”
The result allows Dynamos, the tournament’s defending champions, to continue their title defense.
Meanwhile, in Bulawayo, Highlanders secured their place in the next round with a 2-0 win against league newcomers Bikita Minerals. The goals for Highlanders were scored by Lynoth Chikuhwa and Mason Mushore. The team maintained its lead throughout the second half to secure the victory at their home ground.
Highlanders coach Kelvin Kaindu commented on the outcome. “It was a professional performance,” Kaindu said. “We maintained our structure and took our chances when they came. Our focus now shifts to the quarter-finals.”
Both Dynamos and Highlanders will join the other first-round winners in the draw for the quarter-finals. The Premier Soccer League is expected to announce the date and venue for the draw in the coming weeks. The remaining fixtures of the first round will determine the full lineup for the next stage of the competition.
