President Emmerson Mnangagwa publicly commended businessman Wicknell Chivayo for his recent series of donations during an address at a church gathering on June 9 in Madziva, Mashonaland Central province. Speaking to attendees of a Johane Masowe Vadzidzi Vajesu Church event, Mnangagwa encouraged Chivayo to continue his activities.
According to reports from state-owned media covering the event, the president addressed Chivayo, who was in attendance, directly from the podium.
“Stay in that lane and know that the more you give, the more you receive,” Mnangagwa was quoted as saying. He added that those who have been blessed with wealth should share it with others.
The president’s comments were made in the context of Chivayo’s recent high-profile donations. Over the past several months, Chivayo has gifted numerous high-value items, primarily vehicles, to musicians, social media personalities, and members of the ruling ZANU-PF party. These donations have been widely publicized, often through Chivayo’s own social media channels.
Chivayo has been a subject of public discussion in Zimbabwe for several years, partly in connection with government contracts awarded to his company, Intratrek Zimbabwe. Notably, the company was awarded a contract for the Gwanda solar project, which became the focus of legal challenges. In 2023, the High Court acquitted Chivayo of fraud charges related to the project after a protracted legal process.
The donations and Chivayo’s public association with political figures have generated commentary across Zimbabwean media and online platforms. The president’s public endorsement at the religious gathering marks a formal acknowledgment of the businessman’s recent philanthropic activities. The event was attended by thousands of church members and various government officials.
