An Israeli airstrike on a vehicle in Gaza City on Sunday killed two people and wounded 13, according to Palestinian health officials. The Israeli military confirmed it conducted the strike in the Tal al-Hawa neighborhood, stating that the operation targeted two Hamas operatives.
Health officials in Gaza reported that the identities of the two individuals killed were not immediately known and appealed to the public for information to assist with identification. Video from the scene showed a vehicle with significant damage.
The strike occurred amid an ongoing ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, which was brokered by the United States in October of the preceding year. Hamas issued a statement accusing Israel of violating the agreement. According to health authorities in Gaza, more than 1,300 Palestinians have been killed in the territory since the ceasefire began.
Separately on Sunday, Gaza’s Ministry of Health announced that generators at several hospitals had stopped working because of fuel and oil shortages. An official from the ministry stated that the amount of fuel Israel has permitted into Gaza covers only emergency needs, falling short of the 2,500 liters hospitals require monthly for operations.
The incident followed comments made by U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday during a visit to Ireland. Speaking at a news conference, Trump discussed his administration’s role in the region.
“We put out the fire, and we got all the hostages back. There’s very little happening right now in Gaza,” Trump told reporters. “If you look at Gaza, there’s a lot of good relationships taking place right now. It’s been quite amazing. I think we’ve done a great job.”
According to local authorities in Gaza, at least 73,669 people have been killed in the territory since the conflict began in October 2023.
