BusinessPictet Global Fund Reaches $5 Billion, Driven by China Investment

A global multi-asset fund managed by the Swiss firm Pictet Asset Management has increased its assets to over $5 billion this year, a threefold rise from its previous size. The firm has attributed the substantial growth primarily to increased investment from clients in China directing capital into overseas markets, according to a Reuters report.

The fund’s assets under management expanded from approximately $1.67 billion to their current level in 2024. Multi-asset funds are investment vehicles that typically hold a variety of asset classes, such as equities, bonds, and commodities, in a single portfolio to diversify holdings.

According to the report, the inflows from Chinese investors have been directed toward international assets with a focus on specific sectors. The areas of interest identified include investment products that provide exposure to the artificial intelligence (AI) supply chain, as well as alternative investments. The term “alternatives” in finance generally refers to assets outside of traditional stocks, bonds, and cash.

Pictet Asset Management is the institutional investment division of Pictet Group, a private bank and financial services company headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. The group, founded in 1805, is one of Switzerland’s largest private banks. As of its latest public filings, Pictet Group reported total assets under management and custody of approximately CHF 638 billion (USD 713 billion).

The growth of this specific multi-asset fund reflects capital flows identified by the asset manager. The firm has not released a detailed public breakdown of the inflows or a comprehensive list of the specific assets held within the fund.
