PoliticsZimbabwean President Asked to Protect Chivayo Inheritance

A spokesperson for the Chivayo family, Herbert Chivayo, has publicly requested that President Emmerson Mnangagwa assist in safeguarding the inheritance of the late Victor Chivayo’s children. The appeal was made during the president’s condolence visit to the family’s residence in the Gletwyn suburb of Harare following Victor Chivayo’s death.

President Mnangagwa was among those who gathered at the family home to pay their respects after Victor Chivayo, the brother of businessman Wicknell Chivayo, died in a car accident.

Speaking to attendees at the mourning event, Herbert Chivayo, who identified himself as an uncle and family spokesperson, addressed the president directly. He stated the family’s intention to ensure that the deceased’s assets would be managed according to his wishes for the benefit of his children.

Herbert Chivayo asked for the president’s intervention should any external parties attempt to interfere with the estate and the children’s inheritance. The family’s request was delivered in the presence of other mourners and government officials accompanying the president.

The event followed the death of Victor Chivayo in late January. According to reports from national police, he was involved in a fatal vehicle collision along the Harare-Mutare highway.

President Mnangagwa’s visit to the Chivayo residence was to offer his personal condolences to the bereaved family. Official government channels have not issued a public statement in response to the family’s specific request regarding the inheritance. The gathering proceeded with standard mourning rites and acknowledgments of the deceased.
