WorldGaza: 7 Palestinians, Including Child, Killed in Israeli Strikes

Medical sources in Gaza reported that seven Palestinians, including an eight-year-old child, were killed in separate Israeli strikes across the territory on Saturday, October 10. The events occurred on the one-year anniversary of a ceasefire agreement in the region.

According to a source in ambulance and emergency services who spoke with Al Jazeera, eight-year-old Shahd Abdul-Razzaq al-Najjar was killed by an Israeli quadcopter drone in the al-Jawazat area of western Gaza City.

In other incidents within Gaza City, the al-Shifa Hospital reported that an Israeli strike near the Haider Abdel Shafi roundabout killed four people and left several others injured. The same hospital confirmed that another Palestinian was killed in a separate Israeli drone attack in the city’s Tuffah neighborhood. In southern Gaza, medical officials in Khan Younis reported that a woman died from injuries sustained in an Israeli attack that occurred earlier in the day.

On Saturday, the Gaza Ministry of Health released updated casualty figures. The ministry stated that since the ceasefire began on October 10 of the previous year, 1,481 Palestinians have been killed and 5,254 have been injured. The ministry’s data also shows a total of 74,370 Palestinians killed and 175,371 injured since October 7, 2023. For the preceding 24-hour period, the ministry reported that Israeli military actions killed at least nine people and injured 65.

The anniversary of the ceasefire prompted a statement from over 100 humanitarian, human rights, and civil society organizations on Friday. The coalition claimed the agreement “exists in name only, with Israeli forces continuing to kill and injure Palestinians daily.” The statement also cited “restrictions on aid, equipment and rebuilding materials” as factors preventing recovery.

Separately, in the occupied West Bank, the Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission, a Palestinian Authority body, documented 12 incidents involving Israeli settlers on Saturday morning. The official Palestinian news agency, Wafa, reported that settlers assaulted Palestinian farmers, used pepper spray, and damaged or stole property. Wafa also reported that in the Ramallah and el-Bireh Governorate, Israeli settlers, accompanied by the Israeli military, forced farmers to leave their land.
