The Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (Zanu-PF) commenced its 23rd Annual National People’s Conference on Oct. 12 in Chinhoyi, the capital of Mashonaland West province. Approximately 7,500 party delegates are expected to attend the event, which runs until Oct. 17 and is focused on party policy and national development, according to organizers.
The six-day conference began with the arrival and accreditation of delegates at the Chinhoyi University of Technology. Local reports indicated that the influx of attendees for the gathering has led to hotels, lodges, and other accommodation facilities in the city being fully booked.
Party officials have described the conference as a “working session” with the stated objective of translating party policy into government development programs. The Annual National People’s Conference is a key event on the Zanu-PF political calendar, serving as a platform for members from across Zimbabwe’s provinces to convene and discuss the party’s direction.
As the governing party of Zimbabwe, the resolutions and discussions from the conference often inform the legislative and policy agenda of the national government. The event brings together senior party leadership, government officials, and grassroots members to deliberate on political, economic, and social issues. The conference is scheduled to conclude on Oct. 17.
