Venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz announced on Friday, April 12, that it has raised $7.2 billion in new capital. The funds are allocated across five specialized investment vehicles aimed at technology startups at various stages of growth.
In a public statement, the firm, also known as a16z, detailed the distribution of the newly raised capital. The largest portion, $3.75 billion, is dedicated to a Growth-stage fund for investing in more mature companies. The remaining capital is divided among four early-stage funds with distinct areas of focus:
Infrastructure: $1.25 billion for companies building foundational technology, including artificial intelligence systems.
Apps: $1 billion for consumer, enterprise, and financial technology applications.
American Dynamism: $600 million for startups in sectors supporting national interests, such as aerospace, defense, and manufacturing.
Games: $600 million for companies developing interactive entertainment and gaming technologies.
The announcement outlines the firm’s strategy of using specialized, independent teams to manage investments within each sector. According to the statement, this structure allows investment partners with deep domain expertise to lead decision-making for their respective funds.
Founded in 2009 by Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz, the Silicon Valley-based firm is a prominent investor in the technology industry. Its portfolio has included companies such as Airbnb, Coinbase, and Instagram.
This latest fundraising effort occurs as the technology sector continues to focus on advancements in artificial intelligence. The firm’s statement specified that its Infrastructure and Apps funds would have a significant focus on opportunities related to AI.
The new capital follows previous fundraising cycles and positions the firm to continue deploying investments across the technology landscape, from early-stage concepts to established growth companies. The firm did not disclose the specific investors who contributed to the new funds.
