SportsCAPS United to Chibuku Super Cup Quarterfinals; Coach Aims for Title

CAPS United coach Takesure Chiragwi stated his team’s objective is to compete for trophies in cup competitions following a victory against Simba Bhora in the Chibuku Super Cup. The Harare-based club secured a 3-2 win in the first-round match, which advanced them to the quarterfinals of the tournament.

The match, held at Mandava Stadium in Zvishavane, was part of the opening round of Zimbabwe’s main knockout football competition. CAPS United scored through Rodwell Chinyengetere, Ian Nyoni, and Blessing Sarupinda. Simba Bhora’s two goals were scored by Tinashe Balakasi.

In comments made to reporters after the match, Chiragwi affirmed his side’s approach to tournament play.

“We will give our best to challenge for silverware whenever opportunities arise in cup competitions,” Chiragwi said.

The victory for CAPS United came after the team recorded a 6-0 win against Scottland Academy in a preliminary round fixture, which earned them a place in the tournament’s Round of 16 against fellow Premier Soccer League side Simba Bhora.

The Chibuku Super Cup, organized by the country’s Premier Soccer League, provides the winning team with an opportunity to represent Zimbabwe in the CAF Confederation Cup, a continental club competition.

With the first-round matches concluded, CAPS United joins other clubs that have advanced to the quarterfinal stage. The draw for the next round of the competition will be conducted by league officials at a future date. The tournament continues alongside the regular Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season, where CAPS United also competes.
