The series is a South African adaptation of the U.S.-based reality show format owned by Netflix. In a statement released by the streaming service, the premise of the show was outlined. It features a group of single men and women seeking romantic connections without seeing each other in person. Participants are isolated in individual “pods” where they can communicate verbally but have no physical view of one another. The format allows contestants to propose marriage based solely on emotional and intellectual connection. Only after an engagement are the couples permitted to meet face-to-face.
Following the initial meetings, the engaged couples travel for a retreat, move in together, and plan their weddings, all while navigating their new physical relationships and external factors. The series culminates with the couples at the altar, where they must decide whether to proceed with the marriage.
Dineo Langa is an actress and television presenter known for her work on South African productions, including the telenovela “The Queen.” Solo Langa, whose full name is Zothile Langa, is a musician and songwriter. The couple has been married since 2019.
The production is managed by Stimulii, a South African production company. The “Love Is Blind” franchise has been adapted in several other countries, including Brazil, Japan, and the United Kingdom. The South African version joins the growing list of international editions of the show. Netflix has not yet provided a specific premiere date for “Love Is Blind: South Africa.”
