Runner Fortunate Chidzivo is scheduled to compete in the 10km Totalsports Women’s Race this Sunday in Cape Town. The annual event is held to commemorate South Africa’s National Women’s Day and will feature a competitive field of professional athletes.
Chidzivo, a previous winner of the Cape Town event, expressed her views on the race in a statement reported by IOL.
“It’s always a pleasure to line up for the Totalsports Women’s Race,” Chidzivo said. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate women while doing what I love most—running. It’s a truly unique way to mark the occasion.”
According to information from race organizers, the event brings together elite runners and thousands of recreational participants to celebrate female empowerment and athleticism. The Cape Town race is one of three events in a national series, with other races held in Durban and Johannesburg.
The field of elite competitors is expected to include several prominent runners from Southern Africa. While a final start list has not been released, past participants have included top athletes from across the region. Chidzivo, who represents Zimbabwe, is one of the international competitors who regularly participates in the South African road running circuit.
The race is organized by Stillwater Sports, which has confirmed the route will take runners through the city’s central business district. The event has been a fixture in the national running calendar for over two decades. Proceeds from the race have historically been directed toward charitable causes focused on women’s health and empowerment. Additional details regarding the event’s schedule and logistics were made available to the public by the organizers.
