Gaza Displacement Camps Flood as Two Killed in Northern Area

WorldGaza Displacement Camps Flood as Two Killed in Northern Area

Reports from Gaza on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026, indicated that heavy rains caused flooding in makeshift displacement camps, while two Palestinians were reported killed in a separate incident in the northern part of the territory. Gaza’s civil defence units responded to distress calls overnight after a winter storm affected areas including Khan Younis and Gaza City, according to initial reports.

Civil defence teams provided emergency assistance to families in the al-Mawasi area, west of Khan Younis, where tents were flooded, as reported by the Anadolu Agency. The Remal neighborhood and the port area west of Gaza City were also affected by the rainfall.

In a separate development, the Israeli military was reported to have killed two people, one of whom was a boy, in the Beit Lahiya area of northern Gaza, according to Al Jazeera. The report stated that specific details surrounding the incident were not immediately available.

An Al Jazeera correspondent, reporting from Gaza City, stated the event occurred during what was described as an ongoing ceasefire. The report cited figures from the Ministry of Health in Gaza, claiming that more than 600 Palestinians have been killed since a U.S.-brokered ceasefire was said to have taken effect.

The humanitarian situation in the enclave has been described as “catastrophic” by United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk. Tens of thousands of displaced Palestinian families are living in tents. Previous winter storms have reportedly damaged or destroyed shelters and buildings previously impacted by Israeli strikes.

According to Al Jazeera, humanitarian groups and local officials have stated that restrictions on the entry of aid shipments and materials for shelter are ongoing.
