On Tuesday, June 9, developments in the technology and finance sectors included initial public offering (IPO) filings from artificial intelligence companies, significant corporate financing deals, and revised price targets from financial analysts for several major firms. Stock futures indicated a higher open for U.S. markets, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq positioned for gains following a sell-off on the previous Friday.

A series of major corporate actions in the artificial intelligence industry were reported. OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, has confidentially filed for an IPO. The company had announced a post-money valuation of $852 million in March.

Meanwhile, Bloomberg reported that the upcoming IPO for SpaceX was well oversubscribed, with institutional investors placing orders valued at more than $10 billion. The report indicated that institutional orders were expected to close after Wednesday, while retail investors would have additional time. SpaceX is scheduled to begin trading on Friday.

Anthropic, another AI firm that filed its IPO paperwork last week, finalized a $35 billion debt agreement with Apollo Global Management and Blackstone, according to The Financial Times. The capital is intended to fund the company’s AI development, including the purchase of chips developed by Google.

In the corporate debt markets, Amazon sold $10 billion of Canadian dollar high-grade bonds. According to a Bloomberg report, this marks the largest corporate debt offering ever in that currency.

In government investment news, Bloomberg also reported that China plans to spend $295 billion over the next five years to build AI data centers across the country. The initiative aims to create interconnected digital hubs to expand access to computing power.

Several major technology firms received updated price targets from financial institutions. Analysts at TD Cowen raised their price target on Alphabet to $475 from $450, stating that they expect margins for Google Cloud to increase. UBS analysts maintained their buy rating for Micron and a price target of $1,625, citing expectations of earnings and revenue ahead of guidance due to improved pricing. Micron is scheduled to report its quarterly results on June 24.

Apple shares experienced downward pressure Tuesday morning after turning negative on Monday. The stock’s movement followed the company’s announcement of AI enhancements for its Siri platform at its developers conference. Morgan Stanley raised its price target on Apple to $360 from $330.

In the pharmaceutical sector, GSK announced its plan to acquire U.S.-based drugmaker Nuvalent for $10.6 billion. Following the announcement, shares of Nuvalent increased by nearly 39% in trading.
