Top PostsSAFIRE Announces $5M Land Restoration Plan in Zimbabwe

The Southern Alliance for Indigenous Resources (SAFIRE), a non-governmental organization, has launched a five-year, $5 million strategic plan for 2026-2030. The initiative aims to restore 50,000 hectares of degraded land and enhance climate resilience in rural communities across Zimbabwe.

The plan, introduced under the theme “Thriving Ecosystems, Resilient Communities,” outlines a framework for environmental and community-focused projects. According to the organization’s announcement, the program will operate in 15 districts and 80 wards throughout the country.

The core objectives of the strategic plan are twofold. The first is the large-scale restoration of land that has been environmentally degraded. The plan sets a specific target of returning 50,000 hectares to a more productive state over the five-year period.

The second primary goal is to strengthen the capacity of rural communities to manage the effects of climate change. The details of how this will be implemented are part of the broader strategy focused on creating sustainable local ecosystems.

Funding for the initiative is budgeted at $5 million for the duration of the plan, which will run from the beginning of 2026 to the end of 2030. SAFIRE stated the funds would be directed toward activities that support both the land restoration and community resilience components of the program.

The organization has not yet released a detailed breakdown of the 15 districts selected for the initiative or the specific projects that will be undertaken. The program’s stated focus is on improving the relationship between local communities and their natural resources.
