BUENOS AIRES – Singapore’s Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong met with Argentine political and business leaders in Buenos Aires during a working visit from Oct. 20 to 24, 2025. According to a statement from Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), the visit focused on bilateral relations and economic partnerships between the two countries.
During his time in the Argentine capital, Lee held meetings with several current and former officials. The MFA reported these included former President Mauricio Macri and Chief of Government of the City of Buenos Aires Jorge Macri.
Lee’s schedule also involved discussions with lawmakers, including Provisional President of the Argentine Senate Bartholomé Abdala; National Deputy Belén Avico, who is President of the Singapore-Argentina Parliamentary Friendship Group; and National Deputy Eduardo Valdés, who serves as President of the MERCOSUR Commission in the Chamber of Deputies. Meetings were also held with local business leaders and representatives of business associations.
The ministry’s statement outlined that the discussions covered the economic and interpersonal connections between Singapore and Argentina. A key topic was the MERCOSUR–Singapore Free Trade Agreement. The MFA noted that once the agreement is ratified, it is expected to provide new opportunities for trade and collaboration between the South American bloc and the Southeast Asian nation. The conversations also touched upon regional and global developments.
In addition to his official meetings, the Senior Minister is scheduled to attend the JP Morgan International Council meeting in Buenos Aires from Oct. 22 to 24. The event gathers international figures from finance and business to discuss economic trends.
