President Donald Trump announced a new artificial intelligence tool on Tuesday, stating its purpose is to simplify public access to federal government information and services. Speaking at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium, Trump also addressed his administration’s position on the regulation of AI technology.
The announcement was part of an event focused on a new government information portal. “They’re always saying it’s too complicated, too complicated. It’s not complicated any more,” Trump said regarding access to federal resources.
During his remarks, the president commented on the broader development of artificial intelligence, stating his administration would not impede its growth.
“This is one more example of why I will never stifle the growth of technology that will be bigger than the Industrial Revolution,” Trump said. “We can’t stifle it.”
Later on Tuesday, the White House scheduled a meeting to discuss artificial intelligence with several technology industry executives. According to reports, attendees were expected to include Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, and OpenAI President Greg Brockman. House Speaker Mike Johnson was also slated to attend the discussion.
The events in Washington occurred as discussions surrounding AI development and its potential risks continue among lawmakers and industry leaders.
