BusinessUK Delegation Concludes Data Centre Mission in Singapore, Indonesia

A United Kingdom trade delegation concluded a mission to Singapore and Batam, Indonesia, this month, aimed at fostering collaboration and exploring investment opportunities within the region’s data center sector. The delegation, composed of representatives from UK-based data center operators and supply chain companies, met with government officials and industry leaders during the multi-day visit.

The mission was organized by the UK’s Department for Business and Trade as part of a broader government strategy to strengthen economic ties with the Asia-Pacific region. According to a statement from the organizers, the visit was intended to showcase UK expertise in sustainable data infrastructure and create partnerships with local stakeholders.

In a related announcement, UK Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden highlighted the government’s focus on the digital sector, stating that international collaboration is a key component of its technology strategy.

During the Singapore portion of the trip, the UK delegates held meetings with officials from the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) and the Economic Development Board (EDB). A press release from the event organizers noted that discussions centered on topics including the regulatory environment, strategies for talent development, and standards for energy efficiency in data center operations.

The delegation later traveled to Batam, Indonesia, a designated special economic zone. There, they visited Nongsa Digital Park, an integrated digital park that hosts data centers and technology offices. The visit focused on the area’s infrastructure and its role as a developing data center hub with connectivity to Singapore. Meetings were held with park executives and local Indonesian officials to discuss investment conditions and regional development plans.

Participants from the UK side included executives from data center firms such as Colt Data Centre Services, Kao Data, and Pure Data Centres, alongside companies specializing in data center design, power, and cooling solutions.

Following the in-person visit, a virtual roundtable was scheduled for Nov. 22. The follow-up event was organized to provide a summary of the delegation’s findings and present market opportunities to UK-based companies that did not participate in the trade mission.
