WorldUkraine Reports 3 Deaths, Russia Alleges Truce Violations

Ukrainian regional authorities reported at least three civilian deaths and more than a dozen injuries across the country on May 10, events that occurred during a three-day ceasefire that began May 9. Separately, Russia’s Ministry of Defense accused Ukrainian forces of committing over 1,000 violations of the truce with drone and artillery attacks on Russian territory and military positions.

Reports from Ukrainian officials detailed casualties in several regions. In the Kherson region, Governor Oleksandr Prokudin stated on Telegram that a 58-year-old woman was killed in a Russian drone attack in the village of Nezlamne on May 9. The Kherson Oblast Prosecutor’s Office also reported the death. Prokudin added that seven other people, including one child, were injured in the region from drone or artillery strikes since the ceasefire began.

In the southeastern Zaporizhia region, Governor Ivan Fedorov reported that one person was killed and three others were injured by artillery and drone attacks over the same 24-hour period.

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, Governor Oleksandr Hanza announced that a 46-year-old woman was killed and another person was injured on Saturday in the Mezhivska community. Hanza also reported that a child was injured in a nearby area on Sunday.

To the northeast, Governor Oleh Syniehubov of the Kharkiv region said that eight people, including two children, were injured in drone attacks on the city of Kharkiv and surrounding settlements.

Ukraine’s military also provided operational updates. The air force said that Russia launched 27 drones at Ukraine overnight and that all were intercepted by air defenses. In its daily report, Ukraine’s General Staff stated that 147 battlefield clashes had occurred along the front line in the past 24 hours.

On Sunday, Russia’s Ministry of Defense issued a statement asserting that Ukrainian forces had violated the ceasefire more than 1,000 times. The ministry said the alleged violations involved strikes on Russian troops and civilian targets in the Russia-annexed Crimean peninsula and the Russian regions of Belgorod, Kursk, Kaluga, Rostov, and Krasnodar.

“Despite the declaration of a ceasefire, Ukrainian armed formations carried out strikes using unmanned aerial vehicles and artillery,” the ministry stated, adding that its military had “responded in kind.”

Russian forces reported shooting down 57 Ukrainian drones. Additionally, Vladimir Saldo, the Moscow-installed head of the Russian-occupied part of Ukraine’s Kherson region, reported that two people were injured by Ukrainian shelling in the area.
