PoliticsUS, Iran Officials Resume Nuclear Talks in Geneva, Oman Mediates

Officials from the United States and Iran are scheduled to hold a second round of negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear program on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at the Omani embassy in Geneva, Switzerland. The talks will be conducted with mediation from Oman’s Foreign Minister, Badr bin Hamad al-Busaidi.

The Iranian delegation will be led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The United States will be represented by Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and presidential adviser Jared Kushner.

According to reports, the discussions will be indirect. Omani Foreign Minister al-Busaidi is set to facilitate the negotiations by relaying communications between the Iranian and U.S. delegations.

The meeting in Geneva follows a previous round of talks and takes place amid reports of heightened military activity and political tensions in the Middle East.

This event marks the continuation of diplomatic efforts between the two nations, which do not have formal diplomatic relations. The specific agenda and expected duration of the talks have not been publicly detailed by the participating governments. The location for the meeting, the Omani embassy, reflects Oman’s ongoing role as an intermediary in discussions involving Iran and Western nations.
