BusinessZimStat Reports ZiG Annual Inflation Down to 2.9% in August

The year-on-year inflation rate for the Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) currency was 2.9% in August 2026, a decrease from the 3.2% recorded in July, the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZimStat) announced in a report released Tuesday. The agency also stated that the month-on-month inflation rate for the ZiG remained unchanged at 0.1% for the second consecutive month.

The data is part of ZimStat’s monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) report, which tracks the average change over time in the prices paid by urban households for a market basket of consumer goods and services.

According to the agency’s figures, the month-on-month Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages inflation rate was -0.1% in August 2026, indicating a slight price decrease in this category from the previous month. The Non-Food inflation rate for the same period was 0.2%.

In addition to ZiG-denominated figures, ZimStat provided data on the blended CPI, which measures inflation in a weighted basket combining both United States dollar and local ZiG currency transactions. The blended year-on-year inflation rate for August was reported at 1.5%, while the blended month-on-month rate was 0.2%.

The statistics agency is the official source for national statistics in Zimbabwe and releases inflation data on a monthly basis to provide an indicator of the country’s economic performance.
