One point raised was that the African Union should harmonize its multiple development frameworks into a single system for the whole continent, which would facilitate the unlocking of affordable and sustainable financing for Africa.
Seth Mahu, Director of Renewable Energy at the Ministry of Energy and Energy Transition of Green Ghana, made this appeal on the first day of the Africa Global ESG and Sustainability Reporting Summit held in Accra.
Speaking on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, Mahu observed that the African Union has not gone as far as the European Union in a unified framework, but the bed is there through Agenda 2063.
He further mentioned that the merging of these frameworks would not only be compliant with continental standards, but also be a stepping stone to accessing long-term financing.
The TSL Sustainability organized summit, held in collaboration with several ministries of Ghana, brought together sustainability professionals, policymakers, researchers, and development partners to deliberate on climate change, energy transition, and sustainable finance challenges.
Mahu underscored Ghana’s contribution to a national ESG and climate reporting plan with the aim of having a common front in the sustainability practices in all sectors.
TSL Sustainability founder and CEO Dr Shelter Lotsu pointed out the significance of mandatory ESG reporting, saying that Ghana Stock Exchange guidelines are still voluntary. The summit’s objective is to generate policy recommendations and the design of training programs for legally binding ESG reporting in Ghana.
