Alan Kyerematen, Ghana’s former trade and industry minister, has signaled he intends to contest the 2028 presidential elections. Speaking to supporters in Accra, he urged Ghanaians to think beyond party lines and embrace a broader global outlook for the country’s future.
Kyerematen argued that Ghana cannot afford to remain inward-looking. He highlighted trade, technology, and innovation as areas where international cooperation will be vital. “Partnerships with the world are no longer optional—they are the way forward,” he said.
The former minister resigned from the New Patriotic Party before the 2024 elections and ran as an independent candidate. He positioned his potential 2028 bid as part of a long-term effort to bridge divisions in Ghanaian politics and to build consensus around national priorities.
He also laid out elements of his economic vision. Strengthening agriculture, promoting industrial growth, and expanding digital innovation were among the key points. He told the audience that Ghana’s future depends on a clear plan that can outlast election cycles and prepare the next generation for tougher global competition.
