The United Nations Fact-Finding Mission on Sudan has been pointing out that Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are responsible for crimes against humanity while they have been besieging El Fasher and its surrounding areas, such as killing, torture, enslavement, rape, sexual slavery, sexual violence, forced displacement, and persecution of the victims due to their ethnicity, gender or political beliefs.

Such charges were elaborated in the report, which was published in early September 2025 by the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Mohamed Chande Othman, chair of the fact-finding mission, said the RSF engaged in acts of violence against the civilian population such as mass killings, sexual and gender-based violence, looting, and the destruction of livelihoods, which at times were so severe that they constituted persecution and extermination.

The most detailed part of the report is about the RSF’s behavior during their siege of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state.

The RSF is having a conflict with the Sudanese Armed Forces, who is the other side, two main factions in Sudan’s civil war that started in April 2023.

The paramilitaries were deprived of their authority over a major part of central Sudan, including the capital Khartoum, in the first months of 2025. El Fasher is the place where the two military coup are fighting for dominance over the rest of the city.

The UN report is just one of the many documents that have been collected by both sides in the conflict, which is fighting for the longest time and has already resulted in one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the history of the planet.
