On Thursday, the President of Algeria, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, announced the end of the mandate of the Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui and appointed the Minister of the Industry Sifi Ghrieb as the head of the government.

According to the state media, the change happened on August 28, 2025, which means that Algeria went through a change of government leadership.

A former diplomat, Larbaoui, was appointed prime minister by Tebboune in 2023. State media did not release any information regarding the reasons for Larbaoui’s departure from the position of head of government.

This comes in a gas-rich country in North Africa that has been a significant energy supply to several European countries. Algeria is known to be politically stable during the last few years.

Ghrieb, on the other hand, is the new acting prime minister who will temporarily occupy the position. This appointment marks the end of the era of Larbaoui in diplomacy and the start of an industrial sector under the leadership of Ghrieb and the temporary government.
