The head of Sudan’s intelligence, Lt-Gen Ahmed Ibrahim Ali Mufaddal, made a military-significant trip and toured Mogadishu on Wednesday.

The trip came after Khartoum accused Puntland of being indirectly responsible for supplying arms to the rebels in Sudan.

On one hand, the chief of Sudanese intelligence came with a message from the army commander of Sudan, Lt-Gen Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, according to Villa Somalia. On the other hand, Sudanese intelligence chief Hassan met with his Somali counterpart, Mr. Wagtuure, before the meeting with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

The Government of Somalia in its statement expressed that the message of al-Burhan delivered by Mufaddal was reaffirming his commitment to the deepening of bilateral cooperation with Somalia.

The visit was preceded by the military government’s allegation that Puntland had become an area where mercenaries and arms for rebels landed.

They accused the Port of Bosaso and the local airport of being used by Colombian mercenaries and for the shipment of arms to Sudan from the United Arab Emirates.

The Puntland Ministry of Information denied the accusations in a statement issued by local authorities.

The Puntland state has maintained a very good relationship with the UAE despite the fact that the federal government in Somalia has had some disagreements with it in recent times as a result of the constitutional review.

When Khartoum first complained at the end of July, it did not only call on Mogadishu to investigate the Puntland military activities but also accused the Somali capital of being involved in the latter.

Since April 2023, the war in Sudan has been going on between the Sudanese army and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces.
