South African police have confirmed that three men were arrested on a murder charge in connection with the killing of 2 women, whose bodies were eaten by pigs on a farm in South Africa.

It is reported that the farmer Zachariah Johannes Olivier, 60, and his workers Adriaan Rudolph de Wet and William Musora are responsible for killing Maria Makgatho (45) and Locadia Ndlovu (34-35) in August 2024.

Makgatho and Ndlovu went to Olivier’s farm in Limpopo province near Polokwane to collect expired milk that was to be fed to pigs.

Ndlovu’s husband who was there with them got shot but survived to tell the police. The police found the decomposed bodies in the pigsty on or about August 20, 2024, following a missing person report.

The three defendants; the farmer Zachariah Johannes Olivier, 60, and his workers Adriaan Rudolph de Wet and William Musora, have been each charged with two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, and possession of an unlawful firearm.

In addition, Musora is charged with illegal immigration and De Wet is accused of the statement that he was forced by Olivier to release the victims by feeding the pigs.

The issue has sparked protests across the country and is still grappling with the questions that lie in the context of violent crime and racial inequality not only in South Africa but rural areas of the country specifically.

The Human Rights Commission has reacted calmly and has initiated community dialogues in place for the prevention of vigilante responses.
